All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** >From the December 17, 1948 Winnfield News-American Former Resident of Gaars Mill Dies After Long Illness Funeral Conducted Saturday for Mrs. Almedia Hammons Funeral services were held at the Harmony Grove Baptist Church Saturday, December 11 for Mrs. Almedia Dean Hammons, 89 years, nine months, and four days, who died December 10 at the home of her son, H. H. Hammons, as a result of an illness that had confined her to her bed for several months. Rites were conducted by the Rev. H. H. McBride, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield, and interment was in the Harmony Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, and included T. L. Kelly, Sharon Parker, Pete Kennedy of Winnsboro, Dean Hammons of Many, Lloyd Newsom of Urania, and Justin Hammons. Mrs. Hammons had resided in Winnsboro for the past two years. She was born near Dodson on April 6, 1859, and spent most of her life near Gaars Mill, and was a member of the Harmony Grove Baptist Church. She was the wife of W. F. Hammons, and her father was the late Samuel Dean, pioneer Baptist preacher. She is survived by a son, Hilton Hammons, of Winnsboro, and a stepson, Dayton Hammons of Gaars Mill, and 19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
