Hammons Dies July 28th In Alexandria Last Rites Were Conducted At Harmony Grove Church W. F. Hammons, 74 year old resident of the Gaars Mill community died at the Baptist hospital in Alexandria Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 as the result of a kidney and bladder trouble. Mr. Hammons was a well known farmer and had been one of the community's most progressive farmers until his age and health necessitated his retirement. Born in Alabama, Mr. Hammons came to this country sixty seven years ago with his parents. He was one of a family of about thirteen children, only two of whom survive him, two brothers, A. A. Hammons of Dodson and C. J. Hammons of Gaars Mill. Also surviving are his widow, Mrs. Meddie Dean Hammons; two sons, Dayton and Hilton, and one daughter, Mrs. W. D. Stringer, of Gaars Mill. Mr. Hammons first married Miss Maltha Dean, to which union two children were born. Following the death of his first wife, he married Miss Meedie Dean to which one son, Hilton Hammons, was born. He was a member of the Baptist Church and Masonic Order. Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at the Harmony Church with the Rev. Otto Hughes officiating. Interment was in the Harmony Grove Cemetery.
