A. Harlan Buried in Mount Zion Cemetery Mrs. Francis Mitchell Harlan, age 64 years, died at 10 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 1931, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hugh Mercer, in Winnfield, following an illness of two weeks duration. Mrs. Harlan was a native of Arkansas, being born in Magnolia, on March 15, 1867, later coming to Winn Parish, where she has lived practically all of her life. In January, 1886, she was married to W. A. Harlan, who died in February, 1920. To this union was born three sons and three daughters, who were with their mother when the end came. They are J. T. Harlan, Montgomery, La., W. E. Harlan of Plaquemine, La., Eugene Harlan of Verda, La., Mrs. W. H. McLemore, Shreveport, La., Mrs. W. L. Fagley, Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Hugh Mercer, Winnfield. Three sisters also survive, two of whom, Mrs. W. E. Gardner of Montgomery and Mrs. A. J. Elkins of Elizabeth, were at Mrs. Harlan's bedside, the third, Mrs. Mrs. A. B. Bice of Ruston, was kept at home by illness. Brief funeral services were held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Mercer at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon by Rev. A. H. Cullen, pastor of First Baptist Church, Winnfield. The remains were conveyed to the Mt. Zion Cemetery, four miles north of Montgomery, where interment was made in the family burial plot. Final funeral services were conducted at the grave by the Rev. A. H. Cullen and Mrs. Lula Wardlow of Montgomery, pastor of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church.
