Attorney H. C. "Abe" Harrison Dies August 13

Funeral services for Herbert A. Harrison, 48, were held at 10 a.m. Monday,
August 15, 1966, in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield with Rev.
W. R. Gage officiating.  Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery.  V. F. W. Post
3800, Winnfield, conducted military rites.

Harrison, a Shreveport lawyer, died Saturday in a Shreveport hospital after a
heart attack.  He was a native of Winnfield, a graduate of Winnfield High
School, and Louisiana State University.

He was prominent in both state and national Veteran of Foreign affairs, having
served as chairman of the Southern conference, state department commander,
state senior vice-commander; a member of the National Security and Foreign
Affairs committee, on the National Americanism committee, and on the National
Finance and Internal committee.  He was also a member of the Q. B. Pilots
Club.

Harrison was a member of the law firm of Harrison and Brown, in Shreveport,
and had resided in Shreveport for the past 18 years.

Military graveside services were conducted by a firing squad from England Air
Force Base.  Donald Cotton was bugler.

A sole survivor of Harrison is his mother, Mrs. Myra Harrison of Winnfield.

Five past department commanders and one present department commander acted as
pallbearers.  They were W. R. Baker, Winnsboro; Oscar Aughement, Larose;
Milton Frazier, Lake Charles; Weldon Tooley, Metairie; Patrick E. Carr,
Metairie, and present department commander, Peter Perniciaro, Arabi.

Others participating were Reed Carson, 6th District commander, Winnfield;
Virgil A. Tharpe, post commander, Winnfield; Department officers: Senior Vice
Commander Cecil N. Gould, Bossier City; Junior Vice Commander Edward P. Gros,
Thibodaux; Quartermaster Fran J. Pivonka, Baton Rouge; surgeon, Dr. William E.
Lyle, Leesville;

Other post commanders and officers from throughout Louisiana were present and
participating in the final rites.
