Funeral Services Thursday (From the December 30, 1927 Winnfield News-American) The entire town was shocked by the news of the sudden death of Denton Harper, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Harper, which occurred at Shreveport Wednesday morning about 4 o'clock. He spent the holidays with his parents and left here Monday evening for Shreveport. Sometime in the night Tuesday he was stricken with acute indigestion and called the lady with whom he boarded and asked her to call a friend and a physician. the friend, Willard Meek, came immediately and realized the seriousness of Denton's condition who only lived a few minutes after the arrival of the physician. He was one of the most popular and well liked boys of our town and had just qualified himself for his life's work. He is a graduate of the Winnfield High School, later attending school at the Military College of Sweetwater, Tenn. Last year he completed a course in accounting at the Bowling Green Ky., Business College. He was an accomplished musician and was a member of a popular Kentucky orchestra for several months. Recently he decided to locate in Shreveport and had gone there to make his home when seized with the fatal illness. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Harper, one brother, Blanchard Harper and two sisters, Mrs. Dewey Bradford of Mena, Arkansas, and Mrs. Ruth Harkrider of Greenwood, and many other relatives and hosts of friends. Upon receipt of the news Blanchard Harper left immediately for Shreveport and returned Wednesday evening bringing the body. Funeral services were conducted at the Harper home Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. A. H. Cullen with interment in the Winnfield Cemetery. The out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Slaughter of Natchitoches; Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Bradford of Mena, Ark.; Mrs. Ruth Harkrider of Shreveport; Misses Eva and Mattie Belle Harper of Alexandria, and Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Harper of Curry.
