J. Hastings, 58, former resident of Winnfield, died in an Alexandria hospital at 11:30 p.m. August 21, following an illness of many months. He resided at 80 Catherine Street, Pineville. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hixson Funeral Home, Alexandria, with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. John F. Kilpatrick, Rev. Kenneth Paul, and Rev. Clyde T. Shaw officiated. Mr. Hastings resided in Winnfield for many years, having married the former Miss Elma Austin of Winnfield. In 1942 they moved to Pineville and Mrs. Hastings was associated with the Modern Insurance Company of Alexandria. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elma Hastings of Pineville; two daughters, Mrs. Leo Veschio of McKeesport, Pa. and Mrs. Robert McDaniel of Alexandria; two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Johnson and Mrs. W. K. Collins, both of Pineville, and five grandchildren.
