H. Hatten, 85, a native of the Sikes area, died of a heart attack after a brief illness at 12:05 Friday, June 18, 1965, at a local hospital. She was a resident of Winnfield and member of the Baptist faith. Last rites were conducted at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. C. C. Martin, pastor of Laurel Heights Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Zion Hill Cemetery, near Sikes (Tannehill). Acting as pallbearers were Kelly Peterson, J. W. Teddlie, Howard Kelley, Hardy Smith, Jr., J. D. Jones, Tritus Ferguson, Robert Holland, and Sam Holland. Mrs. Hatten was the daughter of the late Evi Taylor, and the granddaughter of the late Dan and Fannie Riser, pioneers of the Sikes area. Surviving are her husband, I. H. Hatten; one son, Brian Hatten of Winnfield; two daughters, Mrs. Bruce Smith of Winnfield and Mrs. H. E. Brown of Fairhope, Alabama; four grandchildren; and a brother, Walter Taylor of Alexandria.
