D. Hayes, Jr. Dies of Gunshot Christmas Eve R. D. "Junior" Hayes, Jr., 35 year old former Winn resident was shot to death in Lafayette Christmas Eve. He is survived by his wife and five children, 4-13. Hayes was the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Hayes, Sr., of Tannehill and he was an oil field industry worker. He had been living in Lafayette for about a year and had spent the last 14 years in the south Louisiana oil fields. Official details of the circumstances of his death were not locally available, however the family was told by Lafayette authorities that Hayes was shot at a bar, where he argued with one man and was shot by a third who was arrested pending a hearing this week. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at Mamou, the home of Hayes' wife. Other survivors include five brothers: Derrel of Tannehill, Prentice of Winnfield, Wayne of Bossier City, Terry of Tannehill, Donald Gene of Camp Polk, and a sister, Mrs. Billie Faircloth of Deville.
