D. Hancock, 83 Funeral services for Samuel D. Hancock, 83, a lifelong resident of the Pleasant Hill community in Winn Parish, were held at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Friday, October 17, with the Rev. J. A. McMurry officiating. Burial was in the Corley Cemetery near Curry. Mr. Hancock, who was known to his many friends and relatives in this vicinity as "Uncle Sam", died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ben Hudson, in the Laurel Heights community on Wednesday, October 15. He had been in ill health for some time. He was born on April 2, 1864, in LaSalle Parish, near Tullos. He was married to Mary Maloy who preceded him in death 33 years ago. Surviving are four of his seven children. They are one son, R. F. Hancock, Dodson, Rt. 1; three daughters, Mrs. Ben Hudson of Winnfield, Mrs. Judge Jones of Winnfield, Rt. 2, and Mrs. C. B. Babcock of Pioneer, La. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Cliff Hudson, Willis Jones, John Bartley, Jim Gilmore, J. D. Duff, and Wallace Ingles.
