Hendrix, 88, Succumbs Mar. 27 In S. Winnfield Last Rites For Deceased Are Held In Local Cemetery Joe Richard Hendrix, 88 years, 3 months, and 14 days of age, on of Winn Parish's oldest citizens died March 27, 1941 at the home of Mrs. John Gardner in South Winnfield and was buried Saturday afternoon in the Winnfield Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home. The Rev. J. A. Cockerham and W. D. Sherwood conducted the services. Many of his friends and relatives attended the last rites to pay their respects to the deceased. "Grandpa" Hendrix as he was affectionately known was born December 14, 1852 and had been a member of the Baptist Church for 63 years. He was a charter member of the South Winnfield Baptist Church, one who helped organize the church about 15 years ago. Surviving are nine children, two sons and seven daughters, thirty grandchildren and thirty-nine great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. His wife preceded him in death by nine years. Children are Mrs. L. P. Downs, Columbia; A. B. Hendrix, Bastrop; Mrs. Emma Risher, Mrs. Ida Wagoner, Laura Gardner, Katie Boyett, Angie Poole, Irene Rozell, and Harvey Hendrix, all of Winnfield.
