Mrs. J. R. Heard Dies After Brief Illness

Mrs. Joseph R. Heard, 85, of Winnfield, died Friday, January 25, 1974 in the
Winnfield General Hospital following a brief illness.

Mrs. Heard, the former Lena Ewing, was the widow of the late Joseph R. Heard,
Sr., president of the Bank of Winnfield and Trust Co., a member of the First
United Methodist Church, and a native of Texas.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Jack Midyett officiating.  Burial was in the Winnfield
City Cemetery under the direction of the Southern Funeral Home.

Survivors include two sons, H. R. Heard of Winnfield and Dr. J. R. Heard of
Baton Rouge; a daughter, Mrs. H. N. Wax of Baton Rouge; two brothers, J. R.
Ewing of San Antonio, Tex., and W. B. Ewing Grand Saline, Tex.; a sister, Mrs.
R. C. Murphey of Shreveport; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Pallbearers included Ray Jenkins, A. J. McCartney, John Glyn Jackson, James
Russell, T. M. Varnell, Marvin Carraway.
