All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: April 4, 1941 Winnfield News-American "Grandpa" Hendrix Dies On March 27 In South Winnfield Final Rites Conducted On Saturday Afternoon Joe Richard Hendrix, 88 years, 3 months, and 14 days old, succumbed at his home in South Winnfield on Thursday, March 27. One of Winn Parish's oldest citizens, Mr. Hendrix was born December 14, 1852. He was a charter member of the South Winnfield Baptist Church, helping to organize the church about 15 years ago. "Grandpa" Hendrix as he was affectionately known, had been a member of that denomination for 63 years. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. A. Cockerham and W. D. Sherwood, and burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery Saturday afternoon. Many of his friends and relatives attended the last rites. Surviving are nine children, two sons and seven daughters, 30 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. His wife preceded him in death nine years. The surviving children are Mrs. L. P. Downs, Columbia, Mrs. J. R. Risher, Winnfield, A. B. Hendrix, Bastrop, Mrs. W. E. Wagoner, Mrs. John M. Gardner, Mrs. J. B. Boyett, Mrs. J. W. Poole, Mrs. Melvin Rozelle, and Harvey Hendrix, all of Winnfield.
