H. Hightower Succumbs To A Brief Illness George H. Hightower, 70, retired Winnfield timber contractor, and a resident of Bermuda, La., in Natchitoches Parish, where he was engaged in agriculture, died in a Winnfield hospital at 5 p.m. Wednesday, following a brief illness. He and his wife, the former Ethel L. Hendrix, had celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary here at the home of their son on January 26. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, February 7, at the Winnfield Hixson Brothers Chapel, with the Rev. Jesse Huckaby and Dr. W. L. Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under direction of Hixson. Mr. Hightower was a native of Summerfield, La., but had spent most of his life in Winnfield where he and his wife reared their family. He leaves his wife of Bermuda, La.; one son, Melton Hightower, Winnfield; two daughters, Ms. M. K. Hattaway, Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Wade T. McManue, Shreveport; two brothers, Ramsey and Roy Hightower, both of Junction City, Ark.; two sisters, Mrs. Dallas Pace, Heflin, La., and Mrs. Travis Bradberry, Shelbyville, Texas; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
