Hemphill Died At His Home Near Baskin J. W. Hemphill died at his home near Baskin, La., Wednesday, September 3, at 5 o'clock p.m. He was born March 13, 1861 near Jackson, Miss., and died September 3, after a long illness. He was a devoted Christian and a faithful church worker since he was twenty-four years old. He was married to Miss Tressie Smith in 1887. The deceased is survived by eight children, four boys and four girls: Bryant and Ulis Hemphill, Baskin, La., Silas Hemphill, Homer, La., Luther Hemphill, Winnsboro, La., Miss Beulah Hemphill, Baskin, Mrs. Nora Ferguson, Winnsboro, Mrs. Lela Shepherd, Winnsboro, Mrs. Lula Weird, Baskin; seven grandchildren and two sisters; Mrs. Lizzie Burke, Jackson, Miss., Mrs. Luddie Boatner, Norman, Okla., one brother, R. E. Hemphill, Winnfield, La., and one half- brother, Jessie Hemphill, Florence, Miss. He moved to Baskin in 1911, and lived there until his death. His body was laid to rest in the Union Cemetery near Baskin. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Henry Keys.
