Rev. C. R. McCartney conducted the services, assisted by members of the Georgetown Masonic Lodge, who paid tribute to one of their best loved members. The deceased was born in 1865 in Claiborne Parish where he lived until grown. One of his first jobs was that of a street car driver in Shreveport during the days when the cars were pulled by horses. He resided in Shreveport for eight years and later spent two years in Texas as a farmer, after which he settled in Winn Parish. Until the past few years when his health failed, Uncle Tom was one of the leading farmers in his community, a true friend to neighbors, and people for miles around his home. On April 19, 1900, he married Miss Emma Maxwell, and together they reared a large family, taking part in community life. He was a member of the Baptist Church since young manhood and a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years. Surviving the deceased is his wife, "Aunt" Emma, and eight children. They are, Miss Ida Hodges, Rochelle; Mrs. Pinkie Madden, who resided with her parents since her father's illness; Mrs. Voorhies Gauthier, Bunkie; Miss Geraldine Hodges, Houston, Texas; MissInez Hodges, Washington, D. C., the latter coming by plane to attend her father's funeral; Dave Hodges, Conroe, Texas; Ray Hodges, Beulah; Jimmie Hodges, in the armed services stationed somewhere in England.
