All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: June 30, 1944 Winnfield News-American Tom Hodges, 79, Dies At Home In Beulah Community Had Been In Failing Health For Past Few Years Funeral services for Tom Hodges, (Uncle Tom), 79, who died in the Beulah Community were held Monday morning at 11:00 o'clock. Bro. C. R. McCartney conducted the last rites, which were held in charge of the Masonic Lodge. He was a Master Mason with membership in the Georgetown Lodge. Mr. Hodges had been a Mason and member of the Baptist Church for many years. He was born in Claiborne Parish where he lived until grown. From there he went to Shreveport where he drove an old-time street car pulled by horses, for eight years. He spent the next two years farming in Texas. Coming back to Louisiana he farmed in the Beulah Community until his health failed him in the past few years. He was a true friend and was well known and loved by all who knew him. On April 19, 1900 he married to Miss Emma Maxwell, who survives him. Other survivors are eight children, Miss Ida Hodges of Rochelle, Mrs. Pinkie Madden who has been making her home with him since his illness, Mrs. Voorhies Gauthier of Bunkie, Miss Geraldine Hodges of Hinton, Tex., Miss Inez Hodges of Washington, D. C., who is connected with the Communications Annex, and who came by plane to attend the funeral, Dave Hodges of Conroe, Texas, Ray Hodges of the Beulah Community, Jimmie Hodges, who is somewhere in England in the Army, where he has been for a year. One brother, Will Hodges, of Shelbyville, Texas; seven grandchildren, Imogene, Charles Ray, Melba Lee, Joyce Lynn, and Baby Hodges of the Beulah Community, and Bootsy and Linda Gauthier of Bunkie. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Will Hodges of Shelbyville, Texas and a nephew, Dick Blackstock, of Center, Texas.
