W. Holmes Held Here Thurs. Funeral services for Mrs. J. W. Holmes, 72, lifelong resident of Winn and Grant Parishes, were conducted at the Southern Funeral Home chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 1, with the Rev. P. M. Carraway officiating. Interment was in Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mrs. Holmes died at a local hospital on Tuesday, January 30, following a brief illness. She was admitted to the hospital thirteen days before her death. She was born in Grant Parish on March 10, 1878, and had made her home almost all her life in Winnfield. She was a member of the Montgomery Baptist Church. Her husband, the late J. W. Holmes of Winnfield, preceded her in death several years ago. Mrs. Holmes was the former Miss Louisa Jane McGlothen. Surviving are four sons, Joe B. Holmes of Winnfield, Luther E. Holmes of Ft. Worth, Oswald Holmes of Arlington, Texas, and Wendell Holmes of Pineville; five daughters, Mrs. B. T. Kelly, Mrs. Roy Payne, both of Bossier City, Mrs. Harley Hendrix of Benkel___, Nebraska, Mrs. Travis Wheeler of Winnfield, and Mrs. G. D. Babin of Jonesville; a grandson, Edgar Brown, who was reared by Mrs. Holmes; sixteen other grandchildren and two great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. R. T. Noble of West Monroe; and one brother, Clayton McGlothen of Rt. 1, Montgomery. Pallbearers were Eli Harrell, Ebb Machen, Arie Hughes, J. C. Brooks, Troy Smith, and E. J. Buchanan.
