D. Holmes, was instantly killed in an automobile accident on Highway 167, near Port de Luce bridge at 2 a.m. Wednesday when he was thrown from a car which swerved in order miss another car parked without lights on the highway, and the car turned over several times and landed on him. He sustained a fractured skull and broken neck and other injuries. The other occupants, Edward Gallion, who was driving, and Jack Tannehill, escaped with minor injuries. According to reports, the three were driving toward Winnfield when Holmes noticed a car parked in the road without lights. It was said that he caught the wheel as he attempted to steer the car around the parked vehicle. Holmes was one of the most popular young men in Winnfield. He is descended from two of the pioneer families of Winn Parish, Holmes and Fletcher. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the church choir and the men's quartet. He graduated from the Winnfield High School in 1925 and later the Bowling Green, Ky. Business College. Since that time he has been employed in the Gulf Public Service office here. Surviving are his parents, three brothers, Fletcher Holmes of Harlan, Ky.; Woodrow and J. D. of Winnfield; two sisters, Mrs. T. M. Boyd of Pineville and Mrs. Cal Clark of Shreveport. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church Friday morning at 10 o'clock with Rev. B. C. Land in charge. He will be assisted by Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the local cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jimmie Jenkins, Joe Mitchell, Houston Gates, A. T. Drewett, Jr., Dick Noah, Leon Cantwell, Percy McKenzie, and Jesse Corley. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John T. Mosley, Jared Beville, Kilgore, Texas, Alex S. Hill, Jack Tannehill, Edward Gallion, Horace Boyett, John Emerson, H. L. Debray, Lawrence Donahoe, W. H.
