Last Rites For N. L. Horton Friday, 10:30 A.M.

N. L. "Nick" Horton, 68, retired business man of Winnfield, died Wednesday
morning, 7:00 o'clock in a local hospital.  He had suffered a heart attack
earlier.

The remains are at Hixson Funeral Home until the hour of the services, which
have been scheduled to be held at the First Baptist Church Friday at 10:30
a.m.  Dr. W. L. Holcomb, pastor, and the Rev. Luther L. Booth, pastor of the
First Methodist Church, will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Winnfield
Cemetery.

Acting as pallbearers will be W. Leo Sowers, John William Riley, Roscoe Bice,
E. H. "Kidd" Farr, E. J. Buchanan, Norman Smith, Eugene Love, and Russell
Tullos.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Crusaders for Christ
Bible Class of which he was a member.

Born in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, June 19, 1887, Mr. Horton moved
to Louisiana in 1889 and spent the early part of his life in Jonesboro.  In
1917 he married Miss Eugenia Shows and they moved to Winnfield in 1920.  They
established the Horton Feed & Seed business here Oct. 4, 1930 and operated it
until Dec. 1, 1955 when they sold the business and retired.

Mr. Horton was a veteran of World War I, a member of the First Baptist Church
and a member of the Woodmen of the World for over 40 years.  Mr. Horton's
hobby was 'gardening', and he was widely known for the outstanding early
gardens that he produced.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Eugenia Horton; one son, Leonard Horton,
Winnfield; three daughters, Mrs. John R. Cole, Winnfield; Mrs. L. F. Dupuy, of
521 College St., Shreveport; and Mrs. B. L. Nunnally of Lovington, N. M.; and
six grandchildren.  He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Hancock of Port
Arthur, Texas and Mrs. Ruth Vail, of Fairfield, Ala.; two brothers, Robert Lee
Horton of Monroe and Jack Horton of Shreveport.
