Dr. Howell was a member of the internal medicine staff at Willis-Knighton Memorial Hospital and immediate past president of the hospital's medical staff. An assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at Louisiana State University School of Medicine-Shreveport, Dr. Howell made his home at 4536 N. Fairway Dr. He had been a resident of Shreveport for 15 years and was a native of Kansas City, Mo. Dr. Howell attended high school in Springfield, Mo., before taking his pre- medical training at Louisiana Tech in Ruston. He was graduated from LSU School of Medicine, New Orleans and served both his internship and medical residency at Confederate Memorial Medical Center. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, an associate member of the American College of Physicians, and a member of the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners. He held membership on the visiting staff of Confederate Memorial and the staff of the Shreveport Emergency Blood Bank. He was a member of the Shreveport and Louisiana State medical societies. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Barbara Dickerson Howell, Shreveport; his mother, Mrs. James A. Howell, Shreveport; two daughters, Virginia Antoinette Howell and Rebecca Roline Howell, both of Shreveport, and three sisters, Mrs. Helene Hartley, Dearborn, Mich., Mrs. Elaine Kirk, Amarillo, Tex., and Mrs. Laney D_____, Springfield, Mo. The deceased was the son in law of Mrs. Virginia Bradford of Winnfield. Funeral services were held Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. M. Allen Dickerson, assistant rector of the church, officiating. Burial was in Forest Park.
