Scott Howell Having attained the ripe age of 77 years, 5 months and 26 days, a lifelong resident of this state, W. Scott Howell departed this life on Thursday, March 23rd, at the Riverside Sanitarium at Monroe and his remains were carried to the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. S. Heard, in West Monroe. He was born in Caldwell Parish, being a resident of said parish until the death of his wife in 1916, since living with his daughters, Mrs. W. S. Heard in Ouachita Parish and Mrs. J. T. Steen in Winn Parish. He married Miss Nide Curry, of Caldwell Parish, when about the age of 21 years. To this union six children were born in Ward Three of said parish, where he was considered a successful farmer and stock raiser. He was a member of a family of twelve children, there being only one now living. Mrs. George Thomas of Clarks, Louisiana. He has been a very active member of the Baptist Church since young manhood, serving most all the time as Deacon of his church and Superintendent of his Sunday School. His perfect devotion to his loved ones was one of the beautiful features of his life, and nothing could exceed in exemplification of Christian character, his cheerful and patient submission to the will of his Master, during the trying weeks, while helpless on his bed of illness, without one murmur of impatience or complaint. "So when the holy angels meet us, As we go to join their band, Shall we know the friends that greet us In the glorious spirit land? Yes. "Shall we see the same eyes shining On us as in days of yore? Shall we feel their dear arms twining Fondly round us as before? Shall we know each other there? Yes." He leaves 5 children, Mrs. Essie Butler of Monroe, La., Mrs. W. S. Heard, West Monroe, La., Mrs. J. T. Steen of Winnfield, W. E. Howell of Winnfield, and H. H. Howell of Monroe; 19 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Short funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. S. Heard and the remains carried to Old Bethel Church near Clarks, La., Friday. Rev. Weaver of Monroe had charge of the services, assisted by Rev. Cullen, of the Winnfield Baptist Church. A large number of relatives and friends gathered to pay the last tribute of respect_____________________________.
