L. Howard Held Wednesday Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church here Wednesday afternoon for William Lake Howard, 53, who died at the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria, La., Tuesday, July 23. His death resulted from injuries he received when struck by a hit and run driver last Thursday night, as he and companions were fixing a flat on their car which was parked on the Alexandria-Winnfield highway. Rev. Alwin Stokes, Winnfield, Rev. W. T. Strain, Simsboro, and Rev. J. W. Buckner, Jonesboro, were the officiating ministers. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were: Active: Reed Carson, V. Matt Milam, J. W. Allen, John Steen, Eli Harrell, Fred Lovell, E. L. McGuffee, and John Emerson. Honorary: John Bell, Walter Allen, Mack Branch, Bryant Sholars, A. L. Rickerson, John Rogers, Eugene Keyes, Clarence Sutton, Shirley Jackson, Leamon Sullivan, Harper Terrill, Raymond Dubois, Wesley Dubois, Virgil Hatten, Codie Thompson, J. C. Brooks, Woodrow Traylor, Ebb Machen, W. C. Colvin, P. Hugh Mercer, and Joe Emerson. Mr. Howard moved to Winnfield from Jonesboro and has been in the transfer business here for the past 23 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. J. A. Elkins, Jr., of Shreveport; a son, Corporal Billie Howard, U. S. Army, Dilworth, N. C.; three brothers, Ed Howard, Konowa, Okla.; John Howard, Shreveport; and Louis Howard, Jonesboro; one sister, Mrs. J. M. Buitte, Winnfield.
