Zion Is Called By Death Beloved Member of Pioneer Family Is buried Monday Mrs. Ella Harlan, age 68 years, died at her home in Mt. Zion Sunday morning after only a few days illness. She was the wife of the late Tandy G. Harlan, and was the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dan Shumate who were among the pioneer citizens of that community. Mrs. Harlan, to her friends was "Miss Ella", known and loved by all who knew her. Those surviving are Mrs. Carrie Payne of Alexandria and Mrs. Edna Cantwell of Winnfield, her sisters; one brother, Marian Shumate of California, and an aged aunt, Mrs. Mollie Shumate of Shreveport. The children of the late Mr. Tandy G. Harlan by a former marriage, whom she reared, are Mrs. D. D. Lang of Atlanta, La., Mrs. Crockett Teddlie of Mars Hill, Thomas Harlan of Wheeling, and Henry Harlan of Winnfield. A number of grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive. Deceased was a member of the Baptist Church since early girlhood, a fine club member, interested in everything for the betterment of her community and a friend to everyone. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery Monday at 3 o'clock with the Rev. Jones in charge, assisted by Mrs. F. G. Wardlow of Montgomery. Pallbearers were Leon Cantwell, Hugh Mercer, D. D. Lang, Ernest Maseberg, Crockett Teddlie, and Floyd Shaw.
