R. Horton, Member of Pioneer Family, Succumbs Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie Teagle Horton, 75, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 1965 in the First Baptist Church of Winnfield with the Rev. W. L. Sewell officiating. Burial was in the Bolton-Teagle Cemetery near Winnfield under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Winnfield. Mrs. Horton, a retired music teacher, died Friday afternoon in a Winnfield hospital after a long illness. She was a music teacher for 60 years in the Winnfield area, a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield, member of the Order of Eastern Star, and a long time Sunday school teacher. She was a descendant of (one of) Winn Parish's early pioneer families. Her father, the late John G. Teagle, owned one of the first mercantile stores and liver stables in Winnfield. Her grandfather, the late Nathaniel Bolton, was the first treasurer of Winn Parish. The Bolton-Teagle Cemetery land was donated by her forebears. Survivors are three sons, W. R. Horton, Pensacola, Fla., John L. Horton, Oak Ridge, Tenn., Edward T. Horton, Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Horton Simmons of Winnfield and Mrs. Martile Horton McBride of Columbus, Mont., and 14 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jesse Thornton, James Thomas, Glen Richards, Max Crowe, Richard Heard, Matt Milam, Jr., Leo Shelton, and Estes Bozeman.
