Hughes Dies At Montgomery Thursday, Nov. 29th The sad news was received here Thanksgiving Day, November 29th that Mrs. J. W. Hughes of Montgomery, mother of Earl Hughes of our town passed away that afternoon at 4 o'clock. Mrs. Hughes was 58 years of age at the time of her death and had been in failing health for several years. She was the widow of J. W. Hughes who died in January 1927. In her early married life Mrs. Hughes united with the Methodist Protestant Church and has lived an outstanding Christian life. Her loyalty and devotion were manifested towards her church, her family, and the daily contacts with friends. Her beautiful Christian life was a benediction to her family and a source of comfort to those who came within her gracious presence. The sorrowing community realizes the great loss suffered and legions of friends bow their heads in grief with the family. She was buried Friday afternoon at Mt. Zion near Wheeling. The funeral services were conducted by Mrs. F. G. Wardlow, assisted by the Reverends F. L. Shows, G. J. L. Brown, J. R. Strozier, and C. W. Sherman. The deceased leaves four daughters, Mrs. W. H. Jones, Mrs. S. J. McLemore, and Miss Lucille Hughes, of Montgomery, and Ms. Jesse Boyett of Rochelle; and three sons, Earl Hughes of Winnfield, Herschell Hughes, and J. W. Hughes of Montgomery.
