Hughes Dies of Pneumonia At Age of 57 Brother of Local Man Buried from Hebron Baptist Church Mr. John Edgar Hughes, of Black Creek Community, Colfax, La., Route 1, brother of the Rev. Otto Hughes of Winnfield, died Tuesday at a Shreveport hospital as a result of pneumonia contracted after an appendectomy. Mr. Hughes was 57 years old. He was born September 5, 1881 in Winn Parish, where he was reared. The funeral was held April 4 at the Hebron Baptist Church, of which he was a member. Brother Sherwood, pastor of the Hebron Baptist Church, officiated at the funeral services at Edmond's Funeral Home, Jonesboro, La. Mr. Hughes is survived by nine children, Jean Hughes, Lois Hughes, Mrs. Eloise Faircloth, Mrs. Ruby Brister, Avie Hughes, Ethel Hughes, Ralph Hughes, all of Black Creek Community, Colfax, La., and Essie Mae Hughes and Jim Bob Hughes, both of Bastrop, La. He is also survived by seven brothers, Walter Hughes and Jim Bob Hughes, both of Bastrop, La.; Walter Hughes and Silas Hughes of Dodson, La.; Hardy Hughes, Stephens, Ark.; Frank Hughes, Bastrop, La.; Ben Hughes, Montgomery, La.; Earnest Hughes, Clayton; L. Otto Hughes, Winnfield; and Mrs. R. O. Pace or Morton, Miss.
