The Rev. J. D. Fomby officiated. He was assisted by Mrs. F. G. Wardlow, the Rev. Strozier, and the Rev. G. J. L. Brown. A large crowd of friends and relatives attended the funeral. The many beautiful floral offerings betokened the love and esteem held for Miss Hughes. The accident in which Miss Hughes lost her life occurred when Mrs. Earl Hughes of Winnfield, who was driving the car, lost control while turning a curve. The car turned over, instantly killing Miss Hughes, who was pinned beneath the car. Mrs. Hughes and her two children escaped with minor injuries, although Mrs. Hughes is confined to her bed in a serious condition caused from shock. Surviving relatives are Earl Hughes, Winnfield, Mrs. W. H. Jones, Mrs. S. J. McLamore, Herschel Hughes, and J. W. Hughes of Montgomery, and Mrs. J. J. Boyett of Rochelle. The Wednesday Alexandria Daily Town Talk under a Montgomery dateline has the following to say about the death of Mrs. Hughes: "Miss Lucille Hughes was one of our dearly beloved home girls, having been reared here from babyhood. She was about twenty years old, a graduate of L. S. N. C., and hd just completed a session as teacher at Wheeling, Grant (should be Winn) Parish. Her sunny and lovable nature endeared her to the hearts of all who knew her. The news of her untimely death cast a shadow of grief and gloom throughout our entire town. Deepest sympathy is felt for the sorrowing relatives." Miss Hughes was the youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hughes of Montgomery.
