A native of Winn Parish, Hughes attended the Baptist Bible Institute in New Orleans from 1919 to 1922, then pastored churches in Winn and Grant Parishes for 25 years. For the past 17 years he was employed in the maintenance division of Billups Oil Co. Funeral services were held Monday in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Alexandria under direction of Dr. R. Houston Smith of the First Baptist Church of Pineville. Burial followed in Zion Hill Cemetery near Winnfield. Hughes is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lurah Boyett Hughes of Pineville; one daughter, Miss Naomi Dale Hughes of Washington, D. C.; two sons, Lt. Col. John D. Hughes (ret.) Of Indialantic, Fla., and Otto L. Hughes, Jr., of Lafayette; one sister, Mrs. Laura Pace of Jonesboro; three brothers, Frank Hughes of Bastrop, and Silas Hughes and Ernest Hughes, both of Shreveport, and seven grandchildren.
