W. Hughen, Tuesday, April 6 Funeral services for George W. Hughen, 88, a retired planter who died at 6 a.m. Monday at his home near Winnfield, were held at the New Hope Church near Dodson Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. W. C. Bounds officiated. Interment was in the New Hope Cemetery. Mr. Hughen was born Jan. 10, 1860 at Rockford, Ala. He taught school until 1896, later engaging in the mercantile business until moving to Louisiana from Alabama and later moved to Winnfield. Mr. Hughen was a successful planter in each of these communities until the time of his retirement. He was a leader in his community and had been a member of the Methodist Church all of his life. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Mary Etta Hughen; seven sons, Lucien L. of Arcadia, R. V. W. and H. M. of Winnfield; George V. of New Orleans, and H. O. and V. H. Hughen of Shreveport; three daughters, Mrs. J. M. Conn of Shreveport, Mrs. O. L. Wiggley of Jonesboro, and Mrs. Charles Pugh of Orange, Texas; and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
