R. Heard, 83, Former Winn Resident, Dies Joseph R. Heard, 83, of Hope, Arkansas, father of Mrs. L. W. Bower, Shreveport Times fashion writer, and a member of a family long prominent in Louisiana, died in his home early Saturday, March 1, 1969 on his 83rd birthday. He and his wife had resided in Hope since moving there 47 years ago from Winnfield. A retired businessman, Mr. Heard was born on the family plantation near Shiloh, Union Parish, March 1, 1866, the son of Lorraine Shearer and John Richard Heard, descendants of pioneers in north Louisiana. He was a nephew of the late Gov. William Wright Heard of Louisiana. In addition to Mrs. Bower, his survivors include his widow, the former Daisy Huffman, also a member of a family which long resided in Louisiana, another daughter, Mrs. James G. Williams, Jr. of Bartlesville, Okla., and Montego Bay, Jamaica; and three granddaughters, Daisy Heard Williams and Holly Heard Williams, of Bartlesville and Jamaica, and Daisy Bower, a student at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. Burial was at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Huffman plot in the Old Winnfield Cemetery at Winnfield with Rev. Robert W. Gage of the Winnfield Presbyterian Church officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Herndon Funeral Home of Hope and Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
