Brady Dies; Services Held At Sardis John Alon Brady, 68, of Winnfield died Wednesday, January 16, 1974 in a local hospital following a long illness. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sardis Baptist church with the Bro. Alton Thompson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Calvin Phelps. Burial was in Brown Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Mr. Brady was a native of Atlanta, a surveyor for the U. S. Government and worked for the Louisiana Department of Highways. He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a Mason. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ruth Barton Brady, a son, Benny Brady of Baton Rouge, a daughter, Mrs. Lou Ann Johnson of Winnfield; three brothers, Allen Brady of Montgomery, Roy Brady of Verda, and Lavelle Brady of Gibsland, and four grandchildren. Pallbearers included Julius Barton, Billy Barton, Ivey Keyes, Dennis Taylor, Ed Collins, Jr., and Shirley Simmons.
