J. M. Jackson, age 88 years, 4 months, and 8 days, died at his home in Calvin, Friday, January 27. Funeral services were held at Sanders Church, Saturday, January 28, Rev. A. H. Cullen, pastor of the Winnfield Baptist Church officiating. Interment was in the Sanders Cemetery, the Masons having charge. Mr. Jackson was born in Tennessee September 19, 1839. He moved with his parents to Caddo Parish, Louisiana when six years of age and then to Winn Parish in 1858, living in the Calvin community the rest of his life. He joined the Methodist Church when at the age of eighteen years and united with the Baptist church in 1881. Mr. Jackson served in the Civil War and was married to Miss Mary Elizabeth Mathis, January 20, 1868. Surviving him are his widow and the following children: Mrs. Jennie McClane, Goldonna; Mrs. Sidney Lowe, Winnfield; Henry Jackson, Arcadia; Mrs. Bettie Martin, Winnfield; Mrs. Ella Drummond, Calvin; Mrs. Linnie Kirkland, Gansville; Mrs. Prentice Teagle, Winnfield; Sam Jackson, Calvin; Randall Jackson, Campti; Mrs. Christine Robbins, Winnfield; 25 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; one brother, Matt Jackson, Montgomery, and many nieces and nephews. A large number of friends and relatives from Winnfield attended the funeral of Mr. Jackson.
