Jackson Succumbs At His Home In Hargis Funeral Services Conducted Thursday at Mars Hill Church Mathew Edmondson Jackson, 88 years, 7 months, and 18 days of age succumbed at his home at Hargis Wednesday morning at 5:30 following an illness of more than a week. He had been in ill health for a number of years. Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at Mars Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. John Kitchingham of Columbia officiating. Interment was in Mars Hill Cemetery with the Masonic Lodge No. 168 of Montgomery in charge. Masonic Lodges from Calvin, Winnfield, and Jackson were invited to participate in the ceremonies. Mr. Jackson was born in Madison Co., Tenn., in 1847. He came to Winn Parish and lived in Winnfield from 1861 to 1903 at which time he moved to Grant Parish where he lived until his death. He had been a member of the Baptist Church since a youth and also joined the Masonic Lodge in Winnfield 67 years ago. Mr. Jackson was married to Miss Mary Teddlie of Winnfield, December 21, 1871, who survives him. Six sons and one daughter, 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren also survive. They are Andrew Jackson of Franklin Parish; W. M. of Ebenezer; R. E., J. E., and Miss Kate Jackson all of Hargis; and E. C. Jackson of Atlanta. The deceased leaves a large number of relatives and friends in Winn and Grant Parish.
