M. Jackson, 36, negro, who was killed last Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock when a loose slab of salt fell from the roof of the room in which he was breaking up lumps of salt. The mishap occurred after a blast of dynamite had been set off and the room had been scaled for loose salt. Two other workers had left the scene of the accident about ten minutes before the slab fell. The negro had been employed as a helper in the mine for seven or eight years and was considered a splendid worker. The accident broke the Carey Salt Company's Safety Record of operating since December 5, 1941 without an accident.
