All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** >From the December 3, 1948 Winnfield News-American Funeral Conducted For Henry James, 80, Native of Winn Oak Grove Resident Dies in Winnsboro Clinic on Monday Funeral services for Henry James, 80, of Oak Grove, who was born and raised in Winn Parish, were held at the Winnfield First Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30. Rev. Fred S. Flurry, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. Frazier, pastor of the St. Joseph, La., Methodist Church. Burial was in the Jerusalem Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mr. James died at a Winnsboro Clinic at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, after an illness of several months. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chris James, pioneer citizens of Winn Parish. He was born in Winn Parish in 1868 and lived here until 1904, when he moved with his family to Oak Grove. He operated a farm near Oak Grove until his retirement several years ago. Surviving are two sons, L. L. James of Oak Grove, and Chris J. James of St. Joseph; one brother, Jesse James of Oak Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Sowers of Winnfield, and Mrs. Sidney Dark of New Orleans; two grandsons, L. L. James, Jr., and Chris Jeff James. His wife, the former Miss Susie A. Abel of Winnfield, preceded him in death 42 years ago. (Submitted by Greggory Ellis Davies, Winnfield, Winn Parish, La.)
