A VETERAN DEAD On Tuesday, January 19, 1909, W. R. James, a resident of Royall, died at his home in that town, aged 65. the deceased has been a resident of Winn parish for 56 years. When 9 years of age his father moved into the house where Mr. James died, and he has continuously occupied it since. W. R. James was both a farmer and merchant. He was a devoted member of the Baptist church. Mr. James was one of those sturdy characters whose lives are a shining example to others, filled with deeds of love and kindness and christian charity. He served as a Southern soldier, tried and true, in Company E, 28th Louisiana Infantry, and was a member of David Pierson Camp No. 1603, U. C. V. It is said of him that he never refused aid to an applicant and never failed to have returned any loan of funds which he gave. He has joined his comrades in the Great Beyond and rests in peace under the shade of the trees. He leaves an only son, Dr. E. A. James, of Curry, to survive him, besides other relatives, among whom is his nephew, J. W. Boyett, Jr., of this city. To the bereaved relatives the Sentinel tenders sympathy over the death of their relative and of an honored comrade.
