He was owner and operator of Winnfield Cash Grocery, veteran of World War II, and a member of the Corinth Baptist Church, where he was active in all phases of church work. He is survived by his wife, Josie R. James of Winnfield; a son, Ricky James of Winnfield; two daughters, Mrs. Brenda J. Willis of Lake Charles, and Darlene James of Winnfield; six brothers, W. R. James, Ray James, Roy James, and Melvin James, all of Winnfield; Rev. Willie James of Sikes and Walter James of Dodson; four sisters, Mrs. Grace Perdue and Mrs. Dorcas Prothro, both of Shreveport, Mrs. Ellen Jordan of Winnfield, and Mrs. Essie Smith of Winnsboro. Funeral services were Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Hixson Brothers Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Alson Jeter and Rev. Lester Carpenter. Burial was in the Beech Creek Cemetery near Olla. Pallbearers were Charlie G. James, L. B. Prothro, James D. Perdue, James E. Jordan, Roy W. James, Jr., and Jackie L. James.
