Hicks, 49, Succumbs; Rites Friday John Barton Hicks, 49, of Arlington, Texas, died Wednesday, February 7, 1973, in Arlington, Texas, where a prayer service was held Thursday before the remains were sent here. He had been a resident of Arlington since 1956 and was a quality control engineer. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield with the Rev. James Skinner officiating, assisted by Rev. Calvin Phelps. Burial was in the Garden of Memories. Survivors include his wife, Betty Plunkett Hicks of Arlington; one daughter, Linda Hicks of Arlington; four sisters, Mrs. Lois Joffre of Irving, Texas, Mrs. Helen Denges of Arlington, Mrs. Joe Carroll of Natchitoches, and Mrs. Billie J. Oakes of DeRidder; his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Hicks of Winnfield. Pallbearers were Tracy Lee Harrel, Carroll Hatcher, A. B. White, Marvin Carraway, Breard Carpenter, and Shirley Jackson. Among the out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Thurston and family, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy DeLoach and family of Arlington, Texas, Rev. and Mrs. Miley Walsworth of Campti. Mrs. T. I. Miller of Natchitoches, Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Farnell of El Dorado, Ark., Mr. and Mrs. Lewie Barton, Mr. Fred Barton, Mr. Herman Hudson, Mrs. Myrtie Barton, of Apple Springs, Texas, Mr. Neal Barton of Beaumont, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. McClain of Houston, Texas.
