All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: May 13, & May 20, 1981 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Dr. Sion Ray Jenkins Dr. Sion Ray Jenkins, 61, of Winnfield, died at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 1981 in Winnfield General Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Grayson Watson officiating, assisted by Rev. Jack H. Midyett. Interment, under direction of Southern Funeral Home, will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. A retired dentist, Dr. Jenkins was a member of First Methodist church, charter member of Crusaders for Christ Sunday School Class, served as superintendent of Sunday School, Lay Delegate to the Annual Methodist Conference, Chairman of Pastor-Parish Relations Commission and a member of the Administrative Board. He served as vice-president of the 8th District Dental Society, and was a member of the state and national dental societies. He was also a former member of VFW, Rotary, and Lions Clubs. He was a veteran of World War II. Dr. Jenkins was a member of Eastern Star Masonic Lodge No. 151, F. & A. M., and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He received his formal education from La. Tech and Loyola Universities and helped to organize the Winnfield Country Club and served as its first president. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mattie Frances Jenkins of Winnfield, one son, Sion Edward Jenkins II of Shreveport, two daughters, Mrs. Ellen Julia Gibson of Springfield, Missouri, and Karen Frances Jenkins of San Diego, California, his stepmother, Mrs. Lillie Jenkins, of Winnfield, one granddaughter, Allison Leigh Gibson of Springfield, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Hiram Wright, J. D. Holmes, Dr. Herman Gibson, Jr., Edward Sigrest, Dennis Shell, Marvin Carraway, Dickey Heard, and Dr. James Wood. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Russell, Jr., Dr. John T. Mosley, D. N. Smith, E. H. Farr, Sye Varnell, Members of Crusaders of Christ Sunday School Class of First Methodist Church.
