Mrs. Jenkins, as Mayor Mary W. Allen, was a former vice president of the 8th District of Louisiana Mayors Association. Services for Mrs. Jenkins were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 30, in First Baptist Church with Dr. Calvin Phelps officiating. Burial was in Winnfield City Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mary Weir Allen Jenkins died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 1990 in Humana-Winn Parish Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Jenkins was born May 9 at Rosa in Livingston Parish and had been a resident of Winnfield for over 60 years. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the XXVII Century and Magna Carta. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Choir, a charter member and first president of Keenagers, and a former head of the Cradle Roll Department. Mrs. Jenkins was also a member and past president of the Readers Review Club, and a member of both the American Association of Retired Persons and Winn Parish AARP Chapter 1620. She was a member of Palestine Chapter No. 55, Order of Eastern Star, and had served as a past District Deputy Grand Matron and was past Worthy Matron. She was a former member and past president of Pilot Club, and a member of Home Demonstration Club 13. Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her husbands, Dewey C. Allen, Sr., in 1960 and Louis Jenkins in 1977, and by her elder son, D. C. Allen, Jr., in 1971. Survivors include one daughter and son in law, Frankie Allen Dickerson and Billy M. Dickerson of Winnfield; one son, Alton Allen of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter in law, Elsie DeWolf Allen of Winnfield; three sisters, Amelia Aaron of Natchitoches, Margaret Barnett of Big Spring, Texas, and Annie Pouncey of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
