S. 84 October 20 about 8 p.m. State Trooper Wiley Warren of Winnfield identified the man as Willie Jenkins, 61. Jenkins was reported in the traffic lane of an eastbound car driven by Billie White, 19, of Monroe. White was held overnight for investigation and given a citation for operating a vehicle at an unsafe speed. The incident occurred 7 miles east of Clarence in Winn Parish. Jenkins had been working on his car at the home of his daughter. He had gone across the highway to get some wrenches at the home of her neighbor and it was on his return from there that he was hit, Warren said. His death was the 5th traffic fatality in Winn Parish this year.
