Afternoon Jeraldine, 5, and Roy, 3, children of Mr. and Mrs. Grady L. Jones, of Dodson, met tragic deaths at 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, March 16, when they fell beneath the wheels of a truck driven by their father on a gravel road less than one mile northeast of Dodson. The two children and their cousin, Lora Stewart, 9, of Dodson, were riding atop a stack of firewood on the flat bed of the truck, Mr. and Mrs. Jones and a year old daughter occupied the cab. When the firewood suddenly shifted, the two Jones children were thrown from the truck by the tumbling wood. The boy, his head caught between the wheel and a rock in the roadway, died instantly. Jeraldine got to her feet when the father stopped the truck, then fell back on the road and died a few minutes later. Examination was made by Dr. John T. Mosley, Winn Parish Coroner, who reported the girl's death was caused by a broken neck. The Jones family had spent Sunday at the farm home of the children's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Jones, and before leaving, the father loaded several pieces of firewood onto the bed of the truck to take home. Funeral services for the two children were held at Cypress Creek Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. Monday, with Rev. W. R. Lawrence, pastor of the Pineville Baptist Church, and Rev. S. L. Lantrip, pastor of the Clay Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in the Cypress Creek Church Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Pallbearers, friends and relatives of the family, were Clayton Norred, Norman Terral, H. P. Parker, and Arlie White for the small daughter, and L. T. Pennington, Louie Roberts, H. E. Buchanan, and H. P. Hallmark for the little son.
