L. Johnston, Sikes Native, Dies July 31 Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday for Luther L. Johnston, 82, of Monroe, in the chapel of Mulhearn's Funeral Home of Monroe with the Rev. Edgar L. Wiggins officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Johnston died Friday, July 31, 1970 at St. Francis Hospital after a short illness. A native of Sikes, Mr. Johnston had lived in Monroe for the past 24 years. He was retired from the lumber and logging business in Clarks. He was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Sarah Jane Johnston, Monroe; three daughters, Mrs. H. C. Nichols, Mrs. M. J. Carbone, and Mrs. Charles Penn, all of Monroe; four sons, Clarence Johnston, Elton Johnston, L. V. Johnston, all of Monroe, and R. L. Johnston of Vidalia; one sister, Mrs. Levie Martin of Jonesboro; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
