Johns, Winn Native, Dies In Accident William Ivy Johns, Jr., 38, of Baker, La., died Wednesday, April 29, 1970, as the result of a truck accident in Newark, New Jersey He was employed by Chemical Leaman Tank Lines, Baton Rouge, and had been a resident of Baker, La. for the past 11 years. He was an active member of Temple Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, and a former member of Zion Hill Church, Route 2, Dodson, La. Funeral services were held at the Southern Funeral Home chapel Sunday, May 3, 1970, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Bobby Burnett officiated, assisted by Rev. Willie Broadway. Interment was in Zion Hill Baptist Cemetery near Tannehill. Pallbearers included Tony Sensat, Lynn Herring, W. D. Nash, David Martin, Tommy Smith, and W. H. McCain, fellow truck drivers. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Medical Corps. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Maurine Johns; one daughter, Sheryl Johns, 11; two sons, Carlton, 8, and Gregory, 3; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johns, Winnfield; four brothers, Billy of Jonesboro, J. J., Kendell, and Sammy Johns, all of Winnfield; three sisters, Mrs. Beth Ponder, Phoenix, Az., Mrs. Mary Echols, Shreveport, and Miss Kathy Johns, Winnfield; and a host of friends and relatives.
