Jones Held At Zion Hill Former Citizen and Official of Winnfield Buried Sunday Afternoon Funeral services for Charles L. Jones, prominent plantation owner of Lake Providence who died at his nephew's, Harvey Jones, in Montgomery Saturday were held at the Zion Hill Cemetery at two o'clock Sunday conducted by the Rev. A. H. Cullen of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield. Mr. Jones, with his wife had been on an extended visit with relatives and friends in Winn and Grant Parishes and suffered a sudden attack of apoplexy Thursday in Montgomery enroute to the funeral of Mrs. T. L. Jones of Dodson. His condition grew worse and he died Saturday morning. Mr. Jones was a former citizen of Winnfield, a native of Winn Parish and was the son of Mrs. Caroline Jones, 95 years old, of Verda, who with her husband was one of the pioneer settlers of this section. Mr. Jones in young manhood was engaged in the sawmill business; he served the town of Winnfield as marshal for four years and also managed the municipal light and water plant for a number of years. He with his family in 1916 moved to Lake Providence where Mr. Jones has since successfully operated a plantation. Being a member of one of the oldest and most prominent families of this section Mr. Jones' passing is deeply mourned. He is survived by his wife, five sons, Keith E., Clifford, Leo of El Dorado, Ark., Reginald Jones, New Orleans, Norwood, senior at L. S. U., Baton Rouge; three daughters, Mrs. Joseph Greg, Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Joe Bates, Baton Rouge, and Mrs. Ford Sasser, Nixson, Texas; four brothers, W. W. Jones of Montgomery, T. L. Jones, Dodson, Lee Jones, Natchitoches, and Judge Wiley R. Jones, Colfax; four sisters, Mrs. John Jordan, Mrs. M. M. Dickerson, Winnfield, Mrs. W. M. D. Gaar, Hudson, and Miss Rosa Jones and his mother, Mrs. Caroline Jones, Verda.
