Jones, St. Maurice, Succumbs Dec. 18 Last rites for G. M. Jones, 83 year old resident of St. Maurice, were held at the Methodist Church there on Thursday, December 10 at three o'clock. Burial followed in the Methodist Cemetery. Mr. Jones was claimed by death December 8 at his home. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. L. Lay of Campti, assisted by the pastor of the First Methodist Church at Natchitoches. Pallbearers were A. A. Graham, L. G. Smith, Walter Gongre, R. V. Shirley, Cheston Stevens, and G. L. Wyatt. The deceased was a lifelong resident of Winn Parish, a farmer and merchant. Mr. Jones was a Steward in the Methodist Church, having joined that church when he was 18 years of age. He lived a true Christian life and always worked for the welfare of his community. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elmira Jones, postmistress of St. Maurice; three daughters, Mrs. Anna Smith and Mrs. A. J. Holms of Shreveport, and Mrs. Nona Bell of St. Maurice; six sons, A. M. Jones of Houston, Texas, G. S. Jones of Hartsville, S. C., George R. Jones of Spokane, Washington, H. L. Jones of Austin, Texas, Preston M. Jones and James Edwin Jones of St. Maurice; one sister, Mrs. Allie Everett of St. Maurice; one brother, J. R. Jones of Brazoria, Texas; 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
