S. 71 south of Clarence. Fatally injured was Huey Johnson. Johnson's car, a 1957 Ford sedan, ran off the road and along the shoulder for several hundred feet, struck a concrete culvert, and overturned. Riding with Johnson, and injured, was Harvey Lashley, Alexandria. Lashley is reported in good condition in a Natchitoches hospital. Johnson was headed toward Montgomery about two miles out of Clarence in the village of Irma. The time was estimated at 1:30 a.m. Johnson, who was married and had five children, operated a small store in Montgomery. No estimate was given as to Johnson's speed nor would authorities hazard a guess as to the cause of the one car accident. It was reported, however, that the culvert was hidden by a tall patch of Johnson grass. The accident occurred on Johnson't side of the road. Johnson was a World War II veteran and a member of the Montgomery American Legion Post. Funeral services will be at the Union Hill Baptist Church in Winn Parish at 3 p.m. Friday under direction of Hixson Brothers of Winnfield. The remains will be at the family home in Montgomery until time for services. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Winn Parish. Johnson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nina Shumate Johnson; three sons, Larry, James, and Frankie; two daughters, Elizabeth Dale and Thelma Idel; two brothers, Eugene and Willie Johnson; and four sisters, Mrs. Ida Mae Stroud, Mrs. Tina LaCour, Mrs. Marie Davidson, all of Montgomery, and Mrs. Inez LaCour of Natchitoches.
