Death Claims Author Jordan of Jordan Hill

Author Jordan, 55, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Otis Smith, in
Jordan Hill August 29, 1948, after a brief illness.  Funeral services were
held August 30 at the Jordan Cemetery with the Rev. Alwin Stokes of Winnfield
officiating.  Burial was under direction of Southern Funeral Home.

A native of Jordan Hill, Mr. Jordan was a member of the Big Creek Baptist
Church.  He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Jordan of Jordan
Hill.

Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Mattie Maxey; two sons, Wilmer Jordan,
Jordan Hill, and Arnold Jordan, Winnfield; two daughters, Mrs. Otis Smith and
Mrs. Gus Crawford, both of Jordan Hill, and nine grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Archie Jordan, Jordan Hill; Houston Jordan,
Jonesville; four sisters, Mrs. Wesley Jenkins, Mrs. J. R. Smith, Mrs. Marion
Smith, and Mrs. A. C. Maxey, all of Jordan Hill, and a host of other
relatives.  

Active pallbearers were Alvin Keen, Julian Keen, Jeff Wilder, Jessie Wilder,
and J. D. Moore, Jr.
