Jordan Dies At Home Of Son Thurs., May 22nd Charter Member of Big Creek Baptist Church; Funeral Friday W. H. Jordan, aged 82, the oldest resident of Jordan Hill and a descendant of one of the first families in that community, died early Thursday morning, May 22, following an illness of eight months. He is the father of Ervin Jordan, police juror from Ward 9. "Uncle Billy" as he was known to a large circle of friends, as well as relatives, suffered a broken hip when he fell from his porch last October and since that time has been confined to his bed. He was a charter member of the Big Creek Baptist Church, and a member of the Masonic fraternity. His parents, Eli Jordan and Arney Peoples Jordan, came to Jordan Hill Community about 70 years ago from Alabama. Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at three o'clock with the Rev. A. J. Cockerham, pastor of Big Creek Baptist church, officiating , and interment was in the Jordan Hill Cemetery. Surviving him are five sons, Marion, Joe, Lawrence, Ervin, and Lonnie, all of Jordan Hill; five daughters, Mrs. J. H. Maxey, Mrs. J. M. Rosier, Mrs. J. W. Atwell, and Mrs. C. S. Smith of Jordan Hill and Mrs. Lacy Boyett of Springhill; four sisters, Mrs. Farby Jordan, Jordan Hill, Mrs. Susie Radford, Harrisonburg, Mrs. John Lyles, West Monroe, and Mrs. Cynthia Keen, Georgetown, 44 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandsons, Loyd Smith, Grady Smith, Wilford Jordan, Clayton Jordan, Walter Jordan, and Ellis Jordan.
