Jowers, 78, of Montgomery, died Monday, November 16, 1970 at 3:30 p.m. at an Alexandria hospital. He was a resident of Montgomery, a World War I veteran, and a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cora Jowers of Montgomery; two sons, Roy Jowers of Vidor, Texas and Herman Jowers of Montgomery; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas Shelton of Shreveport, Mrs. Cecil Matkin of Provencal, and Mrs. Irving Singer of Lake Charles; three brothers, Melder Jowers of Montgomery and Elige Jowers of Alexandria (only two brothers listed in obit.), two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie McIlwain of Montgomery and Mrs. Clara Lane of Leesville, 16 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hargis Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Moore and Rev. Paul Graves officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery at Montgomery under direction of Southern Funeral Home.
